On February 25, the official Kick-off Meeting of the ERC AviArch project will take place with a public event at the Blue Room of the Rectorate of the University of Turin. The event will mark the beginning of four days of work, which will continue until February 28.
Coordinated by Beatrice Demarchi from the University of Turin, AviArch includes among its beneficiaries Gabriele Gattiglia and the MAPPA Laboratory of the Department of Civilizations and Forms of Knowledge, who are responsible for the development of Artificial Intelligence aspects.
The project explores the role of birds in past human systems, analyzing the transition to agriculture in the southwest of Asia during the Late Epipaleolithic/Neolithic period and the emergence of cities and trade routes in the Bronze Age in Crete. By integrating zooarchaeology, paleoproteomics, and AI, AviArch will investigate avian biodiversity in archaeological contexts, revealing the interactions between humans and birds and their connection to socio-ecological changes.
Through network analysis and multispecies theory, the project will provide a new approach to studying human-bird relationships over time, with significant implications for understanding human adaptability and biodiversity conservation.
